Would & Could

「would」・「could」は色々な状況で使う言葉。区別難しいかもしれませんが、この度紹介する使い方は一緒！

英語では日本と比べる丁寧語がよく使わなくなってきました。日常会話で最も丁寧さは「would」「could」が登場します。

命令っぽい「open the window」に「would」か「could」をいれて、丁寧依頼になります。

「Could you open the window」

次の命令を書き直してみてね

• take out the trash (ゴミ出し)
• keep it down (黙れ！)
• sit down (座れ)
• take this (持て)

Imperatives

命令と言ったところですね。

命令の作り方が簡単です。主語を抜いて、すぐ動詞が入ります。レシピや手順でよく見られます。

Peel the skin

Cut the onions

Fry on high heat until golden brown

こんな文書を読むと勉強になります。普通の文書（平叙文）よりも読みやすい、理解しやすい。動詞活用や助動詞などがないからです。

手順の説明に慣れてきたら、エピソードを考えましょう。

I made dinner last night. I peeled and cut the onions. Next, while I was frying them on high heat, I burnt my fingers!
